We have them, too!  They look like a box elder bug on steroids!  But I’m not sure what they are.  Have you tried whatsthatbug.com?

I just looked it up on What’s That Bug…pretty sure it’s a Western Conifer Seed Bug.

@Miss Apricot: That’s a cool site!  That bug does look a lot like the Western Conifer Seed Bug.  I’ve never seen one around here before, though.

I’m pretty sure that’s a stink bug… I occasionally find them hanging out in my kitchen. I feel bad killing things, even creepy-crawlies, so I just scoop them up onto a paper towel and reintroduce them to the great outdoors… lol  Good luck!

Def. doesn’t look like a stink bug.  Those are kind of wide and flat.  Yuck!

You’re welcome!  I found the site a couple years ago.  We had planted parsley and fennel for caterpillar food in our butterfly garden.  I wanted to make sure what was on the plant was a caterpillar and not an unwanted garden pest that would compete with the caterpillars for food.  Despite that, it never occured to me to check the site for the Box-Elder-Bug-On-Steroids we’d been seeing around our home on occasion, until you asked the question! Laughing
