splurge: my blingy belt! I paid $200 for it, but it was originally $500 so I guess that was a save too!

Biggest save: favours and centerpieces were free with the venue!! However i did add the pinecones and silk rose petals.

Splurge: Venue will run about $8k (w/100+ guests, ceremony, reception, and open bar… as well as transportation [it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere]).

*was going to say my dress at $2k, but bless my mother’s heart, she’s giving that to me as my wedding present

Save: 1) Wedding cake: free (mom is a chef 🙂 ; 2) Photography: free (good friend is doing it for her portfolio); 3) DJ/entertainment: free (yet another gift to us by our talented friends who DJ and/or are in a band…who opened for Vanilla Ice [and totally stole the show!!!]); 4) STDs/invites/escort cards/garter/veil (making them all myself this summer)

So far the biggest splurge (besides the honeymoon cruise) is the marraige license $85 and the pavillion at a state park near our camp $75!!!

Saving on:

Cake free made by friend who wants to start her own business.

Food free made by family and friends

Officiant free fiances long time family friend (now Mayor)

DIY Invitations/Simple decor (outdoor camp/lake inspired @ outdoor pavillion in July, near our camp)

Soda/water/ice provided with discount to brother in law to be (No alcohol as per the state park) Drinks at camp after the party!

Photography free by best friend

OK…so this is both of our second marraiges so this is a simple fun affair!

First wedding in 96… (traditional big fat pouffy Italian wedding)

Biggest splurge at that time was my photographer $3000

Biggest saving was my cake and DJ, don’t remember the cost now, but remember getting discounts

I haven’t paid full price for a single thing yet, so there are no real “splurges” at the moment.

I bought a discontinued floor sample gown for $500.

I used JoAnn Fabrics coupons for my invitations, spending a grand total of $60 for invitations.

Our photographers assistant sent me the wrong price list in an email, so the photographer is throwing in a free engagement session because of the mix-up.

DJ is a close friend and is cutting us a PHENOMENAL deal.

Got centerpieces at Kirklands 30% off.

Tealight holders and mirrors for reception tables were almost 90% off.

We even got half off our room rental fee at the venue because the sales director wants a tattoo and FH happens to be a phenomenal tattoo artist.

The only splurge (which to me means spending full listed price) I think is going to be the cake. If you tasted this woman’s cake, you would pay full price too!

Splurge:

Mine –

My outfit ($2000 dress, $200 veil, $95 shoes, $160 pearl necklace, $290 clutch, and I’m looking into getting a lovely hair comb). Although I plan on re-selling my dress/veil and treasuring the accessories.

The Centerpieces – Vintage Blue Mason Jars (4 per table) sitting on a large birch bark slab. They jars cost about $5 a pop plus shipping on eBay, and the birch slabs are $20 each. Although I plan on re-selling afterward and making back what I spent on the jars (minus shipping which was pricey) and at least half on the slabs.

My FI’s –

The cake (I was fine with a sheet cake or even pies)

Save:

DIY invites/Save the Dates – Magnet Save the Dates were $55 total and the invites should be even cheaper. That price includes items I can continue to use in scrapbooking afterward too.

Venue – $1800 We get it all day, it comes with some tables, chairs, and a coordinator, and we can bring our own caterer and booze

No champagne toast – This saves on glass rental and the cost of champagne. Everyone toast with what you have.

Fanback Chairs – We’re skipping the lovely garden chairs, but I’m going to make a lovely ribbon garland for them.

DJ – $600 He did my friend’s wedding and did a great job, he’s also doing the ceremony

@elibas:  My wedding is actually in Charlotte, NC being catered by Something Classic. They have cheaper options, but FI’s family never gets the budget items. I think it includes everything but the cake, alcohol, table and chair rentals, and tent rental. I was hoping to stay around $1500 for 40 people.

Splurge: Definitely my dress which I fell in love with! (please note I have been saving up for my dress for a long time and give up other life luxuries) $6,000

Save:  I was very lucky to have won a $3,000 photography package with a great photographer through a competition, Wedding Cake (my best friend is very talented and making this), Wedding Stationary (my sister is a graphic designer). I feel very blessed to know such creative, generous people.

My tip to brides is to enter as many wedding competitions as you can.
