I wanted  to do cute wine names but we’ll probably have 36 tables. 🙁

@X0JLYNN03:  Our caterer requested that there also be numbers on the tables.  We just made the seating chart the same layout as the tables.  We had numbers in the background of the table number signs and words on top.

We used the names of people that we like, mostly related to our fields, with a short explanation of who they were.  Most of the explanations were put together from the summary bit at the top of their wikipedia pages.  Some examples were Feynman, Samuelson, Wilde, Nelson.

@HeLovesDogs:  That’s a smart idea, putting the number at the top.. unfortunately my table names are already made & I can’t really add the number. I guess people will just have to search for their table.. it’s not like it’s a huge room.. it can’t be too hard!

@pigzfly:  Hm, our venue hasn’t mentioned anything about that… I don’t think it should be an issue though. I do have a seating chart and when I give it back to them to let them know how many at each table I will make sure each table is labeled with the name we’ve given it as well.

@X0JLYNN03:  I think it’s only a thing if you are having a plated meal?  Plus it helps kitchen communication, because once hte numbers are in order, the servers know where is where, versus someone saying “I need X sent to table Nelson” haha.

@pigzfly:  That makes sense! We are doing family style, so each table is getting the same thing, so the servers just have to bring stuff out to the tables, tables won’t get specific dishes.
