HAH oh yes. Old middle school bully? Yeah, that name is tainted (sorry Ambers of the world, I’m sure the majority of you are great!) to me. Ex that broke into my email and posted pictures of me online? Now automatically suspicious of any guy with that name. It’s definitely not just you!

Jenn.

Not Jennifer or Jenny or any other derivative. Jenn.

I’ve never met a Jenn I liked.

Weird, I know.

Agreed! I have been guilty of the same thing with a certain common guys name that was a complete a-hole to me. Any time I meet a guy that has the same name I shudder. Wonder if this is just a girl thing or if guys do this too?

@aliavenue:  Hey, watch it, missy, I’m a Jen.  Lol!

I will never like the name “Richard”.  It always sounds to me like someone is WRETCHing.

ETA: Oh sorry, we weren’t supposed to write any actual names – whoops!  No offence to all the Richards out there.  OP yes, I totally know what you mean (especially about the exes)!

I’ve got a couple names that I cannot stand, and anything associated with those names just drives me nuts.

Kate.

I’m Katilyn, nickname is Kati. People always wanted to call me Kate, and for some reason I just associate that with being the ugliest name on the planet. Like I hate everything about that name, so I automatically don’t like people named Kate.

Sorry if you’re a sweet Kate!

I know exactly what you mean. Kind of silly but I’ve found myself doing it! I have a few on my list that from past experiences with people of the said name, that I can’t get past if I meet a new person with that name.

@Zelkara:  Guys totally do it too. One of my coworkers admitted to me that he was wary of me for the longest time because I have the same name as his ex-wife that cheated on him. I also have a friend with a strong aversion to Melissa because of some girl that humiliated him.

I don’t think a rather arbitrary dislike for a name would hurt feelings? I will delete my post if I offend! Embarassed
