    EnglishGardenGirl :

i would urge all Catholic brides to be to read up on NFP before they get married, because it’s much easier to get a handle on your cycle before pregnancy changes disrupts it.  Then if you really have to avoid getting pregnant then it is available to you.

I’d use this method ONLY if you would be OK with having a child if it didn’t work.

Fiance and I did the pull out method for over 3 years without any issues.

When we had just turned 20, I got pregnant though and we were about to go into our 2nd years of college so it was going to CHANGE OUR LIVES. We also weren’t engaged back then or even living together. I miscarried at 13 weeks. My parents know but we never told FI’s. I miscarried days before we planned on telling them.

That was 6 years ago already.

Been on normal BC since. Currently a copper IUD. Hormone free and AWESOME.

This would be ok except I basically want to “set it and forget”… temping, timing, and planning are just not for me especially since I have never had a regular period in my life. One month it would be 3 days long, next one would 7 days, the 2 periods in a month, and the no periods for 2 months. Plus, I use Birthconrtrol to avoid periods all together. Heck, if I could just forgot I had a uterus all together it would be great!

I absolutely love NFP – I do use it for religious reasons, but I also love not using artificial birth control and also knowing what is going on with my body.  It’s also nice because Darling Husband and I talk about it and he always knows what’s going on with my body, too.  We have been using it to avoid successfully for the 1 year we have been married, and that’s all we use.  (We have withdrawn once or twice when in the ovulation window – but other than those rare occasions, we don’t use any birth control and just don’t DTD during that time). We were taught Sympto-Thermal NFP by a Couple to Couple League instructing couple, and I use OvuView to track my cycles.

It definitely takes a lot of work and knowledge, as well as cooperation and understanding from your Darling Husband.  And if you’re using NFP specifically, I think you do have to be extra careful at first – it takes a while to “trust” it.  I was sure we’d have a surprise pregnancy due to user error at some point, but our caution paid off and now we are going to be TTC!  It’s great to already have the knowledge of my cycle going into this phase.  Now just hoping that TTC goes well!

From a religious perspective, Catholic in particular, NFP is perfect because you are always open to life.  You’re never using artificial means to prevent a pregnancy.  You’re just being careful with the timing of sex to either achieve or avoid pregnancy.  If God decides to bless our family with another baby when we were trying to avoid, I guess that just means we were really supposed to have that child in our lives.  I’m not saying it would always be easy, but I love kids and I know that they are always a blessing.

If any one has questions about NFP, feel free to message me!

Fiance & I are really interested in this method. Im older & my periods which were normally regular are starting to occasionally become irregular. I really dont want to get on birth control pills or anything else this late in the game. For the last 6 years we have been using what I call extreme withdrawl method. Pulling out in safe times & completely obstaining in ovulating times. Without being graphic I will say we have never completed sex in the natural way. We will be married next Friday & would really like too some day.
