For those of you who have unfortunately experienced this, how long did your bleeding last? Did any of you not pass tissue? I was 5 weeks, 2 days and am only seeing clots. The bleeding isn’t as heavy as it was on Thursday, so just not sure what to expect.
Also, my ob/gyn scheduled my appointment for Sept. 12 (over a month from now) to see where I’m at. Is that normal? They haven’t seen me at all, but confirmed the miscarriage via phone after multiple blood tests showing my hcg dropping significantly (currently at 5 and scheduled for another test next week).

As an ER nurse, I hate the way doctors are having women miscarry at home without giving them any idea of what to expect, what is normal and what would indicate a need to seek medical attention.
Here is some information for you.
I am sorry for your loss.

First, I’m so sorry that you are going through this. I know first hand how hard & emotionally draining it can be.
My natural miscarriage I bled about 7-9 days. The first days were heavy bleeding and horrible cramps, and as the days went on, the bleeding became lighter. Hopefully, your bleeding will stop soon.
I did get my period about one month after my MC.

So sorry you’re dealing with this!
For me, I bled 10 days, and most of my bleeding, while heavy, did not contain tissue in the beginning as I thought it would. I did not pass the brunt of the tissue / pregnancy until day 10. Cramping during that time was almost immobilizingly strong. I was a little over 6 weeks along, so we were roughly at the same point. I hope I don’t gross you out, but I wanted to know what exactly to expect, and I barely got that information from the doctors too… but the size of the tissue was about the length and width of a kiwi fruit, or a lemon. After I passed that, I stopped bleeding all together.
Your doctor wants to see you a month later to ensure your uterus has contracted down to its normal size, and to ensure that you’ve passed all of the pregnancy tissue. If not, you may need to have a D&C. (I’ve undergone both, and honestly, the D&C was far easier than miscarrying naturally. Don’t let this procedure scare you.)
ETA: I had a lot of anxiety about what I would see when it finally passed. It was not recognizable among the tissue.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I know it’s different for everyone, but this really helps me in anticipating what to expect next. Just waiting around and wondering isn’t making this easier. So hearing even the very descriptive info is super helpful. Thank you!

It can be different from pregnancy to pregnancy as well. I’ve been through two early miscarriages (chemicals) and the first one ended up being a partial miscarriage that lasted for 2 months before the HCG finally went down (by 2 months I mean that I actually miscarried on Dec 7th but my body started regenerating HCG after that and that really screwed with things. It wasn’t until Feb 7th that my HCG was at non-pregnant levels). My 2nd miscarriage was really fast and my body treated it like a delayed period and didn’t skip a beat. A week after I started bleeding the HCG was already out of my system.
I’m so sorry that you are going through this. *hugs*

I am so sorry for your loss. ((HUGS)). It can be different for everyone. I had a mc in May but was discovered I had an ectopic. So it was a long process. I was 5+ weeks also. I had clotting the first 2 days and a little heavier bleeding. Then I had spotting or light bleeding for the better part of a month. When it was discovered to be an ectopic I had a methotrexate shot. After that I had some more clotting and a little heavier bleeding for 1 or 2 days followed by more light/spotting. I was also having my beta blood test done almost 1x/week. You may want to ask your doctor about having them check your numbers.
And definitely call your doctor if you have questions or are unsure of anything. It really stinks the way they seem to be so “matter of fact” about such a physically and emotionally difficult experience. I hope you fee better soon.

So sorry you’re experiencing a loss…I do feel your pain. I lost my baby at five weeks on 7/7. I started bleeding on Saturday, my HCG level was a 3.2 on Monday, and I stopped bleeding on Friday. It was clots and painful.
My story has a happy ending. I’m pregnant now, less than a month later. I didn’t have a period after that. I expected to maybe start bleeding 8/9, but instead I had a postive HCG.
Feel free to pm me if I need to clarify anything.
I wish you a healthy recovery. XXXX
