Shortly after we got engaged, I knew I wanted my bridesmaids and MOH to be in navy blue dresses (I envision satin, but I’m open to chiffon too..whatever the girls like). Of course, if my girls are wearing navy blue, the groomsmen would have to match, so in my mind navy blue vests and ties on the guys were a must!
On Friday, my fiancé and I were on a walk and stumbled upon a suit store. As we were discussing what the guys would wear, I realized that matching a navy blue tie with a black tux might not be a good look, as navy might look like faded black.
I always envisioned the guys in black suits/tuxes as to me that’s a classic look. I’m starting to feel a bit disappointed as this may not work. I guess if necessary I can do grey suits with navy ties, but I can’t really picture it. Does anyone have any pictures of groomsmen in black suits with navy blue ties and vests OR grey suits with navy blue ties and vests. If you do (your pictures or other pictures you’ve found online), PLEASE post them!! I’d really appreciate it!!!

@mrs-to-be-2014: my girls wore navy chiffon and guys were in black tuxes with black vests/ties. The tux shop said everyone always does black tux with navy vests but I couldn’t mix them! I think it looked great together! PM me if you want to see pictures..

@mrs-to-be-2014: Love the idea of grey suit with navy tie and vest, think it will subtle and smart. The black suit will all look too dark I think.

My girls were in navy dresses and I had the groomsmen in black tuxes with charcoal vests and ties, my husband wore a silver vest and tie. I just couldn’t do the navy vests with black tuxes, I didn’t like the combo plus I didn’t want them all to be so matching.

beautiful pictures everyone!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! I do like the characoal grey suits. The only dilemma is that we have 3 weddings this summer (2 relatives and 1 friend) and they are all doing grey. Since many of the same guests will be invited to our wedding, I don’t want to overdue the grey look.
keep the navy blue-themed wedding pictures coming!!!

I also had my ladies in navy (satin) dresses. The guys wore black suits and blue ties-but they weren’t navy blue and had a paisley pattern. My hubby wanted a different color tie, so his tie was silver with the same pattern. I think everyone looked ok together. Maybe black suits with silver would be an option for you?

Black looking faded against navy blue?? dont see it
Anyway I do prefer charcoal suits but if thats not what you want you have striped ties that can work, you could skip the trying to match the tie up and tie them in with the boutonniere

AAHHHHH! My inner sartorialist is screaming!
Navy blue and black NEVER go together, on the same person! I know it’s trendy – this is one of those trends you’ll look back on and go “what were we all thinking!?!?”
There is no problem having a woman in a navy blue dress stand next to a man in a black suit – no problem at all. But Do NOT put the men in black suits with navy blue accessories.
Are you talking about suits, or tuxedos? This makes quite a difference.

MY BM’s are wearing navy, the mens suits are Grey Morning coats with vests and pinstriped pants. they will be wearing a floral cravat that has a hint of NAvy in it- maybe you could make a nod to the Navy in the tie, and stick with a black or charcol vest?

We’re doing navy bridesmaids! Initially I was going to have the groomsmen in light grey, inspired by this:
For various reasons I’ve changed my mind and am now envisaging dark charcoal suits. But I did love this photo from my photographer’s blog:

What time of day is your wedding? Coloured vests, in general, look like kids at prom, not grown men in a wedding party, in my opiion. However navy and black just isn’t a good combination. If you are dead set on Tuxedos, I would do midnight blue. Black bow ties are de rigeur with midnight blue Tuxedos (as per http://www.BlackTieGuide.com, which assembles all of the traditions and styling throughout the Tuxedo’s history) I would, however, suggest you make their dress code navy blue suits. Chances are they’ll own one, and, if they don’t, they need one anyway. Charcoal grey with navy is also a good option. If you’re doing a day wedding, and you really want “Tuxedos” you could do the current fashion of charcoal grey Tuxedos, which will look good with navy vests and ties. I would, however, do either navy suits, or charcoal grey suits. In either case, navy ties are a great look. Burgundy ties with a navy suit is a great look too, and adds a little punch.
