I feel like this must have been asked before, so my apologies.
I really wanted Fiance and the groomsmen to wear charcoal suits for our wedding, but he really wants to wear a tux, and since it’s his wedding too, I suppose I’ll allow it (kidding, obviously). I want my bridesmaids to wear navy blue dresses – and I’m pretty set on this, (sidenote: our colors our navy, champagne/gold and a eucalyptus-y green color) but I’m afraid that black tuxes and navy bridesmaid dresses won’t look right. Personally, I don’t really think that black and navy clash, but I know that’s an old rule of thumb. I’m also a little concerned it might be too dark.
So, Bees, do you think it’s okay to have the bridal party in navy and black, or should we switch something up? If so, what should we change? FYI, we’re having a formal night wedding in June in downtown Boston.

I think it will be fine, honestly. We have Navy bridesmaid dressed (DB Marine) and our photographer HIGHLY recommended a charcoal so we went with that but we wanted suits originally anyway. I think Black will be fine. 🙂

Navy and black look great together! Go for it.

I’m fairly certain classic black tuxes go with everything.

Don’t see a problem with it. I think it will look great! Black and Navy won’t clash.

You could have the groomsmen wear charcoal suits and the groom can wear a black tux. That way he can stand out, he gets to wear what he wants, and the guys wear what you want. I think either would look fine with navy dresses

Isabelle663: Hm, that’s a good idea – I’ll see if he likes it! Thanks!
MOHlookingForIdeas: I think so, too, but my mom was telling me I need to be careful because navy and black don’t match.

annb9: Too funny! I was just thinking about this the other day. Our colors are emerald green and navy blue, and my bridesmaids are wearing green dresses. I too wanted Fiance to wear a grey suit/tux, but he’s dead set on a black tux with a navy tie or vest.
I personally think grey compliments navy blue better than black, but I don’t think they clash either. In the end, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not like he had a say in what shade of white to get for my dress.

Black and navy is a very elegant combination. The men could also wear a midnight blue tux.

Black is a nuetral color for a reason-it will look fine with the navy. I was in a wedding where the Bridesmaid or Best Man wore brown and the Groomsmen wore black…it didn’t look that bad! So if that looked ok then navy and black will be great! lol

I really dislike navy and black together, but depending on your wedding style and season it could look nice. You know that you can get charcoal tuxes right?

raspberrymojito: Yes – sorry I wasn’t more specific. Fiance really wants to wear a BLACK tux, but maybe I can convince him to go with charcoal…

I HATE black and navy together and was sure that I wouldn’t want to have the guys in black because the girls are wearing navy. Then we went to look at tuxes and I wore a navy blue dress similar to what Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses are and it actually looked really nice, plus Fiance was dead set on wearing black. I think it looks really nice and formal and doesn’t clash because it’s being worn by two different people.

I think charcoal looks much better than black with navy. It’s not a huge issue or eyesore if he has to have black but from the pictures I’ve seen charcoal looks a lot better.

julies1949: I had the same wedding colors!
Amd I know I’m biased but I think it looked great!
