@Valarie611: Wow, most of my guests are from NY as well but we are getting married in Raleigh.  I completely understand trying to give them a taste of the south!

NC is well known for their wine–especially Duplin wines–much sweeter then the kinds back home.  When we went on the wine tour, they bottle everything here and even make the wine on-site too.  I hope this can help!

How about foot-shaped cookies with chocolate on the “tar heel” portion? A southern season has those or you may be able to make them yourself. Or, NC is famous for BBQ…you could get some sauce for each guest. Or a bottle of Carolina Blonde beer? We also have delicious peanuts, etc…I would definitely check out http://www.asouthernseason.com for ideas. I think the stuff would be too expensive to buy prepackaged but you might see something you could replicate.

We did chocolate tar heels for our Chapel Hill wedding, but that is pretty UNC specific.  People loved them though, and they were delicious!  Another thing that crossed my mind was giving out Cheerwine in the glass bottles.

Boiled peanuts

Sweet potato pie

Sweet tea

Biscuits- include a little bottle of peach preserves

you could do them like this packaging of donuts and milk

or leave out the preserves and do biscuits and beer- a micro brew from SC

@shannonlayne:  Duplin wine is a good idea (my home county).

@Valarie611: Individually wrapped Krispy Kreme donuts would be a neat idea, they originated in NC.  Pepsi also originated in NC.  Sweet tea.  Local jam/preserves (Lewis Farms has really good ones).  Port City Java coffee.  Cheerwine originated in NC as well (I don’t really like it though).

P.S. I’m in Wilmington too 🙂
