@calgaryadam:  Was there anything specific that his father liked (maybe a favorite food or something that is symbolic of his father in some way) that could be incorporated?  Or how about a song that he loved that could be played?

I think adding a symbolic presences for the groom would be overstepping your bounds, unless the groom specifically asked you to do something.

I think mentioning something in your speech (like how proud you know his dad would be of him) or something along those lines would be appropriate.  But, anything more, I’d leave up to the groom.

If the groom is looking for ideas – it could be meaningful to light a candle for him – in honor of his memory.
