I need some advice…
Ive been working really hard for months trying to make connections and prepare myself, my resume etc to find a teaching position. I moved to NJ last year and am gaining my Certificate of Eligibility so I can teach while I gain my certification. So far I havent been able to gain any type of educational employment other than a temporary gig as an assistant teacher for a summer school program. Back in my home state I did a lot of volunteer work, knew all the school teachers at the local high schools and had a lot of grea connections there. Now that I moved out of state I struggle to establish connections. Not many people are receptive to giving me a chance. I have my B.A. In History and intend to teach Social Studies. I also want to gain certification in Special Ed.
I’ve joined a bunch of sites and an association for students becoming teachers. I’m working on a teaching portfolio but it’s small because I don’t have much teaching experience.
So my question is, how do I make connections? How do I find a job? I don’t even care if I don’t get paid I am willing to be a volunteer. I must have a job by next summer. I know it may seem like I have a lot of time but I want to start my efforts ASAP.
I was expected to go to law school by my family but went against their wishes because I really truly want to teach!
I’ll take any advice I can get!
