We’ve been married almost 40 years and nothing was said. When we got to the end of the aisle, we stopped, my father kissed me on the cheek, and I said “Thanks, Daddy!” then he walked over my train, because he was very emotional/numb, etc. My husband didn’t ask permission to propose to me, either; that’s just the way we are.
I fought with the local newspaper, to not use the term “given away” in their wedding announcement. We settled on the word “escorted.” P.S. I had asked my mother to walk with us too, as I thought it was only fair, but she declined.
When both our daughter’s married, over the last few years, my husband and I both walked with them, to the end of the aisle, and no one said anything.
