- Wedding: September 2013
Long story short: a friend and Bridesmaid or Best Man has a cousin-in-law who has his own DJ business.
I always thought it was sort of a rinky-dink “on the side” job but recently found out that it’s a full blown, legit thing.
I went to a bridal show 2 weeks ago and they had a booth set up and turns out one of the reps is a girl my sister went to high school with and is married to the owner (my friend’s cousin-in-law).
The prices she showed me sounded pretty reasonable and she said her husband could def “cut us a break.”
My dilemma is that I’ve only heard this guy DJ 2 weddings: my friend’s and her sister’s. It was decent, but the music wasn’t really my style, so I feel like I can’t give an honest opinion.
I’m assuming that he’d taylor the music to our taste though, right?
I’m hesitant to contact him because of the “know someone who knows someone” issue. What if we don’t go with them? I’ll feel really guilty and awkward if/when I run into them at my friend’s functions (parties, etc).
I also don’t know anything about the photographer he works with.
And one of my other BMs said that she thought his DJ service was crap.
I’m really overhwhelmed by all of the DJ/photography choices out there and we are on a budget, but I know these are 2 categories brides should NOT skimp on.
So I guess I’m just worried about how we’ll know if someone is going to do a good job — this guy or anyone else we hire.
I know there’s referals and online reviews, but those are always so mixed and they just leave me feeling even more confused.
Can anyone help?
I’m really getting anxious about these 2 parts of the wedding and don’t know what to do. I feel like no one is going to come within our budget and I feel like an idiot that can’t make a decision.
