Do you need to stay in San Juan or are you willing to stay outside of the city? If you are I would suggest the Wyndham Rio Mar. It’s about 30 minutes out and the beach is amazing there. They also have snorkeling tours and things that leave from the hotel. It’s also about 5 minutes from the El Yunque Rain Forest.

Now if you would like to stay right in San Juan I would suggest the El San Juan Hotel & Casino. It’s beautiful and very modern.

(DH has family there so we go a couple times a year)

I going to agree with the El San Juan Hotel & Casino! It’s in the Carolina area just outside Old San Juan and right ON the beach. It’s literally 5 minutes away from the airport. Also the facility is beautiful, modern and they have a regular party on Saturday nights on their property outside on the beach. They also have a club (if you are into that) INSIDE the hotel. The Ritz Carlton is nearby as are a few other hotel & casinos. For day trips I recommend the Camuy Caves, because they are cool, the nightime kayaking trip and a rainforest trip.  Skip the Bacardi tour, it stinks! Have fun!

@MrsLongcoatPeacoat: Have you looked on cheapcarribean.com?  If you left the day after your wedding and stayed for 5 days The wyndham is $1600 including airfare round trip. That may still be out of your budget but it’s really a great deal!

We have also rented condos when we were there for less than $200 a night. If you’re interested in something like this, let me know and I will get the contact information for a couple of the places from my Father-In-Law.
