How long has it been since you sent her the email/phone call? I own a business and ALWAYS make sure to get back to people within hours even if it’s just a “I’m busy I’ll reply later” thing and I expect that. i know I can be a bit overbearing and my expectations can be unrealistic, but if it’s been weeks…yeah I’d been disputing.

I would take two tacts at the same time.

1) Go to the salon to make sure everything is in order. Forget calling or emailing.

2) Start locating another makeup artist.

How long ago did you make the payment?

When was the last time your heard from her?

When was the last time you tried to contact her?

I would try one more call, then dispute the charges and find another stylist.

The makeup artist I had originally chosen did the same thing to me–we had everything set up (luckily I did not pay in advance), I was emailing them about how many girls we had that needed hair and makeup and they weren’t responding for weeks… Eventually, they got back to me and said they had booked another wedding on my wedding day and wouldn’t be able to do it!

I learned from planning my wedding that brides have to deal with so many vendors, (and most of us are not event planners) everyone should be getting back to you in a timely fashion or you should take your business elsewhere.  If I were you, I would send one last email to the makeup artist letting him know that you are going to go with someone else because he did not get back to you, and that you are going to have your credit card company cancel the charges.  Then I’d call AmEx and cancel the charge… then find another vendor who realizes that getting back to you should be a priority.
