I’ll tell you what I always tell people when they’re trying to think of wedding colors: look in your closet. What colors do you like to wear?

I’m getting married in July and my colors are silver with bursts of yellow – but that’s sort of trendy. I will say, though, that everyone I’ve spoken to tells me not to worry about the color of the carpet/floor in your venue. If you’re having an evening reception, the light will be dim enough that the red won’t even show.

That said, if you’re open to using red as one of your colors, take a look at Snippet and Ink for some color ideas. Here are all of her inspiration boards with red in them: http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/search/label/red

In particular, I think black and white with punches of bright red might be a nice, classic, and elegant look: http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/2008/08/board-254-le-rouge-baiser.html

in a wedding magazine lately I’ve seen red paired with pinks.  All shades of pink all the way to red.  You could do varying floral arrangements.  Lighten the scene up with some silver accents too.

Even saw pink bridesmaids drsses w/red sashes at waist.

Also aqua is a lovely shade with red.  Have seen that as well.

Black white pinks to red w red as darkest accent color in the "color" part of the equation.

If you ask her by e-mail: http://zenadiadesign.blogspot.com/

she’ll actually make an inspiration board for you.  Just send her photos of your venue and maybe the feel you are going for and she’ll do something great!  She just re-featured a board she did for my wedding a few days ago…the brown, champagne & crimson one…and those colors make also work for your venue.  I liked it because it’s kind of like a spin on the classic black and white but it’s still classic.

since your wedding is in the summer and the venue has dark decor, what about using lighter colors to fit the summer season?  you can use yellows, an analoguous color, or greens, a complimentary color, and it can still look traditional and elegant.  lillindy’s suggestion of champagne also sounds like a nice classic color as well.
