That dress is beautiful. It was on my short list of dresses to try. I think it would also hilight your best assets as it has a very flattering neckline, plus you would be able to wear a good supportive bra.

Its amazing how reactionary people are about weddings. They have so many rules and expectations that they are NOT heasitant to share. Its like weddings give people even complete strangers permission to tell you what you should be doing. People loose sight of what weddings are really about…celebrating love and the couple. Fiance and I made a decision long before we really began planning that our day was about us. While we don’t want to offend people, we are also not tring to impress them either and do what we think we’ll like. So, ignore people like this consultant because they’re fools!

Finally, take someone with you dress shopping who makes you feel great! An aunt, good friend, or even Fi. Its a big decision and an emotional one too. My mom is a very negative person and she hates shopping. I knew that if I took her dress shopping I would be looking for her approval when I wasn’t going to get it. I spent some time worrying about  what she would say because even if she wasn’t negative she wouldn’t be happy and would probably come out with something like “its fine can we go now”.  I ended up finding my dress by myself. I went with friends originally, but that got too complicated and I couldn’t hear myself think.  I kinda regretted not taking Fiance with me to choose the dress (because I wanted it to be a surprise), so I ended up taking him to a fitting for his support.

I’m not a plus size gal, but I am very curvy and I sometimes feel like even though I am only a size 10 I look much bigger. Infact my Maid/Matron of Honor and I share clothes all the time -pants even, but no one would ever believe we’re the same size. Anyway, I really feel for plus sized girls because in many of the stores I went into I was at the end of the rack -on what planet is a size 10 as big as women get?!? It was really disgusting and not at all fair.

Have you considered looking at Alfred Angelo? They carry such a range of sizes in many of their dresses and are affordable. Phone bridal salons and tell them your size over the phone -judge their reaction and decide where to go from there. You have the right to feel beautiful on your day and don’t need the BS  Davids gave you!!!

The dress is very nice.  But, if you don’t like it you don’t HAVE TO get it.  There are other bridal salons out there!

That dress is gorgeous! I think it looks quite youthful and elegant! The textures in it are great.

Keep trying and if necessary go on a stealth trip by yourself or with a friend to have a more positive experience.

I went through the same thing when I went dress shopping.  I tried on that dress and it was very flattering.  I am 5’3 and a size 18.  Does your area have a plus sized shop?  I live in the DC area and went to CurvyGirls bridal in Fairfax, VA.  Sizes start at 18 there.  Maybe your area has something similiar?

I know the OP posted this five months ago so I don’t know if she found her dress or not.. but I had to chime in becasue I tried on that dress at DB and it was SOOOOO flattering.  I just didn’t care for the pick ups.  Otherwise loved it.

@LuvMySailor:  Good for you and great choice in a dress! I saw the pic and just had to post because I remember LOVING the neckline and the lace! 🙂  Oh and just an aside, whoever makes marketing decisions for David’s Bridal for the website should be fired, because they don’t show a picture of the BACK of this dress on the site and that is a huge selling point for me at least (i have a fascination with dresses with lace backs with little buttons!)

I love that dress, I think it is beautiful! I am so happy you were able to find something you love. This was one of the first dresses that caught my eye online when I first started looking around months ago and I love it just as much now. Congratulations on finding the one!

I am leaving my mother AT HOME. Then again, she never asked to come! LOL!

FWIW, that dress is lovely and NOT matronly…I hope you rock some serious BLING with it! (and take pics for us)

That dress is absolutely beautiful!  I’m sure you looked gorgous in it.  And just remember- your Fiance asked you to marry because he thinks you are perfect and will think you look stunning in anything you pick out 🙂

I LOVE that dress and always have!  I think it’s stunning and not in the least bit matronly or retro.  I think it’s beautiful!

I’m sorry to hear your experience was so bad! On the other hand, I think that dress is gorgeous. But if you don’t LOVE it, don’t buy it. Don’t settle- try looking into plus-size gowns online.
