Hi bees, I need some major advice on my wedding dress. I had just gotten a new pair of shoes and wanted to try them on with my gown, which I had ordered well in advance. Of course, like many of us ladies, I was trying to lose a few pounds before my big day. Well I over shot it and now my dress is much too large (size 12 to size 6)
I went to alterations and was basically told that they would have to rebuild my bodice and re-align the asymmetrical skirt. On top of that, they said it would be pricey and that I would still have to wear the corset back closed up all the way. My wedding is in April 2013 and I’m worried that if I spend the money on alterations, the gown still may not look quite right. Not only will I be out of money, but I will be out of time to order a new gown and have that altered. My body is very different from what it used to be, and we changed from a destination wedding to a local wedding, so I’m not even sure that this dress really suits me now.
I panicked and called my mom, who is flying out here from Cali in two weeks, to help me resolve the issue. So please help me out (all of you bees are so fashionable!), should I get a new gown, or keep and try to alter my old one?
My old dress (Maggie Sottero Megan)

You are absolutely glowing in the last dress! It really compliments your shape. Even with alterations, I’m not sure your original dress would compare. Are you able to get some money towards a new dress (if you choose to) if you return the original one?

- Wedding: September 2014 - Lodge
I voted for the 3rd dress because you’re face seems to have lit up in the dress. But the 2nd or 3rd were my favorite (I’m partial to lace though) I say if you feel the current dress no longer fits your wedding style you’re looking for AND you can afford a new dress than buy a new dress.
I say this because I also bought a dress that I loved and after pushing the wedding back and (stupidly) looking at other dresses I fell in love with a lace dress also. So I am waiting until the date gets closer so I can really decide if I want to buy a new dress or will use the dress I bought.
Since you’re wedding is much sooner than mine. I say go with what you’ll be happiest with. If you think you’re dress is one of your top priorities and you can’t live without a different dress/ or hyperventilate thinking that maybe your current dress will be ruined than splurge for a second dress and sell the first one to make up the difference.
Good luck. And just so you know they all looked beautiful on you!

The Allure 8917 looks amazing! Salons say you can typically alter within 2 sizes and be okay. Anything more is a crapshoot. So if you are going from a 12 to a 6 (or who knows what size next year), you should probably just try to get a new dress because you might be spending more money to fix it than it’s worth.

Can you try to sell it on one of those wedding dress sites, on here, or even on ebay?? Maybe someone can buy it and you can put money towards that. Or, maybe the dress shop could help you by trying to sell it to someone there that might be looking for a deal? I think that you should go for a different dress….you just look so happy in them!

I would sell the old dress and get a new one in your size. I think you will spend a fortune in alterations and Im not sure if they could make it that much smaller. You have plenty of time to sell your old dress and still order a new one. Congrats on the weight loss.

All of these dresses are beautiful, but my favorite is definitely the second. If you love a new dress better go for it (used or brand new) because you totally earned it, but it really depends on what look you want.

Thank you so much for all of your help ladies! You guys are the best therapy for bridal panic moments lol. My lovely mom is going to help me out with the new dress, so I can breathe a big sigh of relief. I think I’m going to go back with her to try on both dress 2 & 3 and see what she says becuase I’m so torn between them. Hopefully I can sell my dress to another bride for her big day, hey at least it has good weight loss karma lol.

I like dress 2 the best as a personal choice, but your face in dress 3 says it all – you are beaming! And you look gorgeous in both, you can’t lose 🙂
