How about trying just getting a mermaid style petticoat? That would add the volume just at the bottom and give it more of a trumpet style.

Adding anything to add volume will definitely shorten it. I’d leave it alone, honestly.

there’s some information under the pictures about adding a crinoline to shorten a dress without hemming. I’d check with a seamstress to see if anything can be done without losing the length.

A seamstres will be able to modify the shape to be more of a modified a-line, but don’t expect there to be a seam across the bottom of the bodice like in your inspiration picture.  Just go to a dress shop and try on a few different style petticoats/crinolines until you get the shape you want.

Well, you can always take your dress and try it on with different crinolines. That will show you if it will lift it too much or not.
