Get the finest powder you can.  I have this stupid coarse clear powder and it doesn’t work well at all, especially on real detailed stamps.  I don’t know about brands.  I have a few different brands and Martha Stewart’s seems to be the finest grained powder but also the most expensive.

Also, get paper that isn’t very absorbent.  If it is too absorbent the ink will soak in the paper before you have a chance to put the embossing powder on, then the powder will just fall off and not stick at all.  Linen cardstock might not work too well.  But get a sample of it and try it out first before you buy a whole package.

It works best for me with regular paper.  I have trouble with some cardstocks even.  But maybe it’s just me.
