First a disclaimer for the moderators: this is NOT an effort to promote my business. I genuinely just want feedback on my designs, from this super supportive community. There are no links to my store.
Ok bees, I started up a little Etsy shop selling printable wedding stationary, and there is one set of designs that hasn’t sold at all despite me loving it. So obviously, something is missing and I would love to get some real brides’ input on what it needs to be better! Here are some images:
So bees, especially any of you having tropical or beachy weddings, what would stop you from buying these? Are they too simple? What kinds of elements would enhance them? Personally, I love the simplicity of the sketchy images, but apparently my opinion is not good enough! Each layout is $20, like the rest of my items which don’t seem to have a problem selling at that price. I have a thick skin so super honest feedback is very welcome!
Thanks ladies 🙂

I am not a tropical/ beach bride but here’s my feedback.
I like the palm tree. It’s cute! I don’t think I would personally purchase it, I’m not that type of bride. I think it would look better if it was the tree on a island. Also color the palm tree as it should be.
The pineapple, not so much. It’s too over powering. Too much detail to have text over.

@badcorebubbles: I’ll be getting married on a beach in Thailand, and Fiance and I will be making our own invitations, so it’s actually nice to see your post and realize we will need a few people to “approve” of our design before we send the invitations out! Here’s my very honest opinion about your designs. i hope my honesty helps in some way and doesn’t offend you instead. i agree with PP that the pineapple is too much. Also, it is tropical but it doesn’t have that element of romance in it – to me, at least. As for the palm tree design, I really like it on the invitation itself but not so much on the RSVP. It looks rather plain (I know, I’m complaining about too much and then too little). Finally, the program (or what looks like the program) seems a little menu-y to me. i think it’d look much more wedding-y if you have a design in the background instead of a picture on the bottom. The front of it, however, looks PERFECT. I love the one with the palm tree. i personally am not a fan of white invitations, so I’d probably go for an invitation that is printed on color cardstock. Again, i’m sorry if this comes across as harsh and offensive rather than helpful.

I think the pineapple screams “luau” or “backyard summer bbq” and not so much “wedding.” The palm tree also seems a little too minimalist and very casual, even for beach weddings. Also I think the pretty script font on both of the designs don’t match the casual vibe of the images.
Sorry I have no real suggestions, I’m bad at this kind of stuff.

I like the design, but not the black font. That was a deal breaker on our destination wedding invites. Ours have a small beachy design at the top and teh same color font throughout. I find that to be more cohesive.

I like the palm tree set. I think the invitation would need to be just slightly more elaborate in design for me to actually want to purchase it but I like the look of the RSVP card. I agree with some pps that the pineapple set is too “Hawaiian party” as opposed to wedding.

Love all this feedback ladies, thank you so much! And don’t worry my feelings were not hurt at all, haha 🙂 What I’m hearing is it’s def missing that romantic wedding vibe, which I totally get. Just so you know, this whole design was inspired by someone else I made a custom program for (which was the pineapple, despite you guys not liking that one as much) and her theme was vintage hawaiian and very plain – hence why it’s missing that romance. I guess that was just her personal style! Also, I’m not to concerned with colors as they can all be customized to match the wedding (forgot to mention that but it’s in my etsy listings)
Some of you said more elaboration is needed, any more specific advice? Does it need a border?
Thanks ladies you are a huge help!

@badcorebubbles: Hello 🙂 I am a graphic designer and I really like your style! I agree with the black font comment. I would choose a color that complements the other colors.
This website helps a lot with color schemes: http://colorschemedesigner.com/
I wouldn’t buy the pineapple one. I am from Brazil, and the word “pineapple” also means “problem”. Like “I have a pineapple” can also mean “I have a problem” lol
Feel free to PM me if you need any more help!
