OK, let me start by saying that my wedding is less than 2 weeks away and my fiance just got a nasty email from his Mom!! My FMIL graciously offered to pay for the rehearsal dinner months ago. We picked the place, but have had no other involvement in menu, etc. She recently sent us an email telling us what the menu would be. Her menu included cheesecake and gelato cones, even though she is FULL aware that I wanted to suprise my fiance with a Boston Red Sox grooms cake at the rehearsal. So I had to ruin my surprise by asking/telling my fiance about the grooms cake and why would his mother have desserts on the menu. By The Way, I am having the grooms cake at the rehearsal because we will not have enough guests at the wedding for both the wedding cake and a grooms cake. I thought it would be a nice surprise.
My fiance emailed her back just saying that I had a surprise dessert planned and that we really did not need the other desserts. Well she sent back a nasty email saying that she REFUSES to drop the desserts from the menu. She does not see an issue having multiple choices. My concern is that I am spending over $100 for this cake for 30 people and I do not want it to go to waste. We are only having one dessert option at the wedding reception, why can we not have one dessert option at the rehearsal dinner?
Should I just let it go and have multiple desserts, including the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner, try to cancel my grooms cake order and just have her cheesecake and gelato at the dinner, or have a war with my FMIL! My fiance is on my side, so at least I have his support.
