I think ” non-refundable” says it all.

you could try to ask for a refund but clearly you agreed to the terms when you wrote a check  and after 8 months have passed.

if I were the venue, I would be thinking that they probably had to tell other couples they weren’t available for your date because you out a deposit down for it. Hypothetically, since they didn’t have a signature from you they could have booked someone else? No, because you paid a deposit.

Not having official signed contracts is sloppy.

if you want the money back, then ask but I would be prepared for a bit of a disagreement.

I am American and will stick with check 🙂

If you think you can get a refund, then ask for it.

I think it’s a long shot but go for it. All they can say is no. It’s worth trying but be prepared to put up a serious fight.

@Pokemon:  If you paid in cash what sort of receipt or record of the payment do you have from the venue to show that you paid?

I agree with @PinkPinstripes:, since the terms say non-refundable it is doubtful you will get your payment back, although perhaps they will be willing to if they are able to book anothe revent in time.

@Pokemon:  I’d try. Worst they can say is no, right?

@pokemon – it’s clear that you think you’re entitled to do so, so why don’t you just ask them, instead of rebutting anyone elses opinion after you asked for it.
