Hello Bees!! I have been in the beginning stages of wedding planning for a few months now, and I am getting so frustrated on the cost of a wedding!!! If it were up to me, we would elope. But my SO is extremely traditional and wants a so-called proper wedding. My dream wedding destination is in Banff Alberta, but most venues are super expensive! We’re talking $16,000 food&beverage minimum on top of the $5,000 room fee! yikes! So we have decided to rent out a restaurant that has two floors. The first floor is a lounge area with a beautiful fireplace, and there is a restaurant upstairs. It will cost us $13,000 in total (plated meal, booze, appetizers for cocktail hour) to rent the whole building. Does that seem expensive? I’m having a hard time booking a venue and this was our best bet, price-wise. And, we are thinking of doing the ceremony downstairs, then cocktail hour, then going upstairs to eat and then downstairs for the dance. (there is a DJ booth in the lounge area) I guess I just want to know if I’m crazy for getting married in a restaurant, and does it seem overly-expensive? Keep in mind, we are having a very informal, non-traditional wedding.

well hun if that is all in your budget then i say go for it!! My budget is only 4500. So, To me it sounds like you are getting everything for 13000. And if i had that budget i would do it, it souunds like a great price to have everything included.

I love Banff! How exciting to be planning your weding there. Have you been to this restaurant before or read reviews,or are you basing everything on the price?
I don’t think it’s crazy to have it there and to have the whole restaurant to yourselves…I think it’s a wonderful idea! (What restaurant?)
Best of luck!

it’s the SaltLik! I have only ate at the one in Calgary, and I loved it! I’m still unsure if the price is ridiculous, but then I remind myself that all of the booze and appetizers and meal is included and there is no other venue fee, as well as we don’t have to rent chairs or anything like that. It seems expensive, but it’s the least expensive place in Banff that I could find. There are alot of beautiful venues here, but alot of them don’t accomodate more than 70ppl, and we are planning on having about 100 guests.

Saltlik is a good restaurant and James and his team will take good care of you. I can offer you a DJ service if you need that. Let me know.
