@Mrs.SleepyKitty:  My go to gift for weddings for my friends (all in the 22-26 range) is a pretty card with cash or a check.  I know some people are uncomfortable with it, but if your friends don’t have a registry, they’re probably trying to tell everyone (without being completely rude and outright saying it) that money is what they really want.

A gift card or cash is always useful.

I agree that if they dont have a registry, they are probably implying they want cash/check, especially if they are unemployed.  I personally hate giving cash.  I find it extremely impersonal.  However, they are kind of laying it out there and if thats their desire, so be it.

@MASPA:  Ditto to this.

If they have been together for that long, have two kids and keep house – they are hoping for a gift card or cash.

Considering they’re both unemployed, a check might be exactly the thing they need.

Seems like they want cash! Please don’t give them gifts that they haven’t asked for. And if you do give them a gift, include a gift receipt.

I would give them cash if they don’t have a registry.

Cash or a gift card to target or Macys.
