Both are very large for such a small finger. Clarity is good on both. Get the gorgeous G!

    Hi!

The answer to this would depend on a lot of things but most importantly:

    1. What kind of setting are you putting this in? If its a solitaire then you may be able to get away with a lower color (such as the I) and it will still look beautiful.  However, if you are setting the diamond in a halo or with side stones, the yellow may show against the bright white of the pave/surrounding stones.  Also, are you having it set in white gold/platinum? Or yellow gold? With yellow gold a yellow tint will be less noticable.

    2. What does your girlfriend value the most? Is she dying for a larger stone or does she want the highest possible quality?  I know I personally was very happy with an eye clean SI1 because I thought it was silly to pay for VVS if iti all looked the same on a daily basis.  But everyone has their own preference and thats what you should ask her or one of her friends/mom/sister etc.

I’d personally go for the bigger one since I like faintly yellow diamonds more than the colourless ones anyway.

I’d go for the bigger one too. The colour difference is minimal and the clarity is still pretty great.

It’s so subjective… personally I love warmer coloured diamonds, so naturally I’d choose the I.

She may be fussy about whiteness though, so it’s really really hard to say.

@MissNoodles:  G is much whiter than I. Maybe you meant the reverse? G often looks really white, with only a hint of warmth (some Gs are more yellow though.) I is yellow indeed! And on such a large stone (plus fancy cut to boot) it would be very apparent. I wouldn’t like it because it would be clearly not white, but not yellow enough to even be a light fancy yellow.

Eta: ah I saw you edited your post.

If you’ve seen them in person and like both, I would probably get the bigger one. I actually think I colored stones look pretty white all the time, but I’m not as sensitive to color as some folds. My center stone is an M, but it’s cut really well so in most lighting it looks white.

And honestly, the cut is going to be the most important factor to how white it looks, how sparkly it looks, and how big it looks (diamonds that reflect more light look bigger). With fancy cuts like cushions, you can’t judge by the “cut rating” the labs give, you have to look at light performance. If it’s not cut well and doesn’t reflect a lot of light, it doesn’t matter how big it is or how colorless the grade is.

Personally, I can really tell the difference between and I and a G. An I in color would really bug me. I say go for the 1.5ct.

I was given a choice between a G VS2 1CT over a 1.5 J I1 and they were almost same in price. (And the 1ct was cut alot better)….bigger is not always better

I’d go bigger. The clarity is still amazing and most I colored diamonds barely show color if any.

Cushion cut diamonds tend to hold the color a little more than say a round brilliant.  I voted for the better color and smaller diamond.

@lulu_honey:  They do hold more colour, but they also suit more colour (in my opinion). It enhances the vintage look that cushions tend to have.
