I am a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding in July. She has asked us to pick our dresses from J. Crew. We may choose any tea-length, silk chiffon dress in Misty Rose.
I’m a size 16-18 and 38DDD (therefore, plus-size and very busty) and I am not comfortable wearing a strapless dress. My initial thoughts are the Suzy, Clara, Mirabelle or Kylie. Anyone out there with experience wearing one of these dresses, or any of the others?

I’m a 34DDD and love J Crew clothes, but I don’t think they look fit large busts at all.

@CurlyCue: I agree, but I kind-of don’t have a choice since this is what the bride wants to do.

I’d think Suzy or Mirabel would be most flattering and comfortable because a bra can be worn. Depending on how fit your arms on Suzy may not look as great. I have always heard that showing all of your arm is better than a cap or short sleeve.

@slbrinkley: I am a similar size to you. The biggest problem with EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of those J. Crew, silk-chiffon dresses is that, although many of them are very beautiful, they ALL have a VERY FULL, GATHERED skirt.
Because of my curves, I always need to find dresses that are more form fitting (but are not snug or tight) that follow my curves. I could not wear any of those dresses withough looking enormous.
I searched the entire website for a short dress that I thought would look best on myself, and the only one I found was the Sara dress in Leavers lace. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come in our size, and it’s in the wrong fabric and color for your friend’s wedding.
If none of the other bridesmaids has yet purchased her dress, perhaps the bride would consider rethinking her selection, based upon the variety of shapes and sizes of her attendants.

My Maid/Matron of Honor is a 14 with a large chest, and she went with the Clara (I let each bridesmaid pick their own – and she was definitely in the no-strapless camp). She absolutely LOVES it, and I think it looks great on her too. It’s definitely supportive, and it cinches in her waist nicely.
Order through one of the bridal consultants listed on the website – I believe we have FREE returns/exchanges up until the wedding date. Or order two and send one back!

I would go with Mirabelle – I’m a similar size as you, and have a similar dress that is very flattering. Also, you’ll be able to wear a bra with it. Alternatively, Kylie is also a good option (though you would need a strapless or longline bra with that one due to the one-shoulder cut).

slbrinkley: The thing about the Mirabelle if you’re busty is it has a VERY low v-neck. On someone with a smaller chest it works fine, but looks very low on anyone larger than a C cup. One of my bridesmaids is a 14, and she went with the Clara (sizing up to a 16 since J Crew bridal can run a tad small). She loves it – the illusion neckline is perfect for more busty ladies.
