Here is my dilema. I am going to have two of my aunts walk down first in the ceremony and light a memory candle for all of my and Fire Capts grandparents and his brother who have all passed. Then our moms will light thier tapers for the unity candle from the memory candle…. I would LIKE a song to represent family and passing of love from generation to generation…but I’m having a hard time coming up with any….I don’t really care what genre..I like all kinds of music and would really consider anything as long as it was appropriate at this point. I am getting married in a ballroom of a convention center so no worries about the type of music it “should” be. I just would like to find a fitting song for them to walk to….any ideas?????
What about Danny Boy? It’s a traditional Irish song-used at funerals…it’s literally about a son going to war;, and the father realizing that he may not be around when/if son gets back. But today it is used a lot at both funerals and celebrations to pay homage to those who have passed away. It’s really hauntingly beautiful.
Here is a link and, but SO many people have covered it…Joan Baez, Elvis, Willie Nelson…to name a few:
Also, I know, at least for the FDNY and NYPD it is used a lot after 9/11 as an “unofficial anthem,”to honor their fallen so it will probably be familiar to many of your guests, and be very appropriate for the walk and lighting.
