I admire you all for your planning skills…I’m the Worst.Bride.Ever. I cannot make a decision on ANYTHING. I’ve been engaged for 7 months and I have planned….nothing. I get so stressed by it that I literally shut down. I need help! Can someone suggest a non-traditional venue? We want SOME kind of pretty view – mountains, water, gardens, whatever, a cocktail and hors doeurves reception evening reception and a party atmosphere. My budget is $10,000 for EVERYTHING (dress, rings, photographer, everything). We have decided to concentrate our money on an amazing honeymoon (New Zealand!) so we really don’t want to go over budget at all. I swear I have looked at every rental home on homeaway and VRBO and none of the houses allow that many people (approx guest count is 80 – 110). PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! Our mothers are going to be really hurt if we elope, but thats the only other option I can think of.

Hmmm… do you have to have it in CT? There might be some options with a nice view in Western Mass in the Berkshires, perhaps? I don’t know of any specifically but you could check with the Bees on the Western Mass boards. Or maybe just over the CT border in upstate NY? I just can’t think of any venues in CT off of the top of my head with a nice view that aren’t expensive as heck (boo to CT for being one of the most expensive places to have a wedding in the US). Honestly, if my FFIL didn’t offer to pay for the wedding, we’d have eloped and our families would have been upset, too! I definitely hear you!

Have you thought about having your wedding on a Fri or Sun.? This can save you some money! Check out johnlophoto.com His work is really nice and his packages start at $1500. He books really fast! My photographer is Eric Brushett. We just booked him on the spot last weekend! He works with his fiance and they are wonderful! His prices are really reasonable and if you sit down with him, he is willing to make anything work for your budget!
Venues- Have you check out the Brandford House in Groton? It’s on the water and there is a mansion. Inexpensive and so pretty!
Im getting married in March on Sat. at The Gershon Fox Room in Hartford. A Sun. there would be much cheaper and it includes 5 hrs open bar, cake, linens etc. Doesnt hurt checking it out.
