So for my wedding in a couple of weeks, I want to make a fun, silly card box to place on our gift table. I am a pretty crafty person but for the life of me can’t seem to figure out how to do this without it looking totally awful. I am thinking I want to do a tetris piece or a cat, or maybe just a monster (as it doesn’t matter what it looks like… it’s a monster) that eats cards. I’ve only seen a couple of funny ones but can’t seem to find directions on how to construct one and have it look cute.
Anyone have any advice on how to do this? I would appreciate any pointers. I keep having this vision in my mind of what I want but then I imagine what it will actually look like and I see a badly wrapped birthday present with a hole cut in it. Do I get a box and paint it? Do I cover it with paper? Fabric?? Here are some ideas of kind of what I am thinking I want to do (sorry they’re so huge)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Bees!!!

The cat cracked me up. Would everyone understand the top one? I love it but I dont know if everyone would understand.
For the cat one, can you make the cat and then attach it to a box so the slot is behind the cat’s head and the cat is big enough to hide the box for people to put cards in?

Here’s a basic rundown for a card box using a cardboard box. Cut a small chunk out of the two of the top flaps (so that when you put them together, they provide a decent-sized hole for guests to drop cards into.
When you go to wrap it (like a present), make sure the first “seam” is at the top, hovering over the slot you made. You should make the paper several inches longer than necessary, and don’t secure the tape TOO much on that top part. When you’ve finished wrapping the rest of it as normal, untape the top seam, and cut to fit around the edge of the slot.
Fold the little flaps around the slot down and tape. Repeat on the other side of the slot.

The mario one is awesome! If people don’t get it, so what? They’ll have to be over 50 not to, and so they’ll just assume it’s a young person thing. No biggie.

This is just an idea, but what about buying a kids pinata. They are empty these day. You can find any character you could think off. Do you and Fiance like any specific thing ie. like angry birds. Just cut a bigger hole for the cards. They have them in all shapes and sizes. My son is turning 5 in a week so I have been in kids party planning mode so maybe that why I thought of this crazy idea. Just a thought. Good luck!! On a personal note, dont know how many guest will get it unless its associated with something you and Fiance like and make plenty of sinage. You would be surprised at how many people would be very confused. I love the idea though!!
