Hi everyone, first time posting–very excited to have just booked our venue!
Here’s my situation: my fiance and I are both going to wear dresses for our wedding, and she’s already found her dress. It’s a beautiful fluffy pink Hayley Paige dress, complete with sparkles, and it’s absolutely perfect for her!
(The far right one, more pink than beige)
The problem is I’m not sure how to find a dress that will look good next to it. I feel like it’s going to be a hard dress to “match”! Previously I’d been looking more at mermaid or A-line, white, lace, a low back and a bit of a train. My favorite that I’ve found so far is Essense of Australia D2002; the only part I didn’t love was the beading on the straps. Does anyone have any thoughts on what kind of dress would work next to my fiance’s? Is lace going to be too busy next to tulle and glitter–do I need to settle on satin or another solid fabric instead? My fear is that our dresses will clash in photos, or that it will look like we were attending two different weddings and just happened to run into each other.

I think your choice would look great with hers! I wouldn’t worry about the lace “matching”. I feel like it’s actually a nice contrast that you are both not wearing lace. From the picture you gave, it looks like your FI’s dress is pink which fades into a white ombre? If so, I think that would really tie in well with your white dress. If you want yours to be more matchy, you could also introduce some more pink elements to yours, such as some pink shoes or accessories. I think it would look great.

I was under the impression the HP 2017 spring gowns weren’t out yet? Or am I mistaken on this?

Variety is the spice of life! You don’t need to dresses that look similar. The fact thay are both gorgoeus bridal dresses will provide sufficnient compatibility. I think wear your Essence and you too will look divine.

thesoontobemrsv : I don’t think they are, but she got to try it on at a trunk show last month. She basically described her personality and the consultant immediately went and brought back this dress. My fiance started jumping up and down when she saw it–the consultant absolutely nailed it!
compassrose : That’s a great idea to tie in with some accessories, thank you! I don’t think the ombre on her dress is as distinct in reality as it looks in that picture (I don’t remember noticing it when she tried it on), but maybe accessorizing in both directions–like giving her a white ribbon belt–would tie both dresses together.

Oh I love the Chandon gown! I had my heart set on Leah, but I definitely want to try Chandon on too! Your fiance is going to look stunning!
Honestly, don’t “settle” I understand trying for a cohesive look, but you are also the bride and deserve your perfect dress! I think that the Chandon is fairly simple because there aren’t a ton of embellishments, and I am wondering if you can find a lacy mermaid with a softer skirt to tie the two gowns together. I think lace will look perfectly fine if that is what you want and I think the contrast will actually look quite nice!
Maybe looking for something with a horsehair skirt like the Chandon has might help? Check out Hayley Paige Brooke (this one probably has my vote), Honor, or Tanner. You should also look at Watters because I feel like those dresses have a similar vibe to Hayley Paige.
Good luck finding your dream gown- can’t wait to see what you choose!

I like the idea of you guys having different dresses with a consistent piece or color. Like you could have a subtle pink accessory or shoe? Something small that ties you together. I would be afraid of getting too matchy-matchy.

You are two separate brides and the individuality of each of you should stand out… both dresses make you both happy so don’t go with something that you aren’t in love with.. BTW both dresses are stunning!!

I wouldn’t worry about “matching” at all. You are two individuals. You will both be beautiful.
I would also not worry about adding pink accessories. You are not cake toppers.

Lace would be awesome – a nice contrast and dramatic in it’s own way. Buy a dress you love!

Thanks so much for the help, everyone! I feel a lot better about my choice of dress now. I think I’ll still try to see them side by side but the pink might actually make it easier because I don’t have to worry about what shade of white I get. Thank you!
