how does a normal ceremony go? religious elements? what can you pick and choose, or does he/she have a fairly set script? how long will you talk about the couple or give a sermon? any requirements? any restrictions (dress, music, photography)?

@kitzy:  Those are some good ones.  Our officiant was my preacher at my church.  He gave us a copy of the wedding ceremony and told us he would include a sermon that would make the ceremony last about 30 minutes start-finish.

Time allowed into the church – especially important if you are wanting pics ahead of time.

Definitely check out the restrictions. One church we were really considering turned out to be a no-go after we found out we MUST use their organist, who choses the songs (with our input), there is to be no recorded music, no flash photography, etc, etc. It was very much a ‘b/g show up for their cookie-cutter wedding.’ The church we chose to use is so flexible, has so many options available for us to think over and choose from, and are open to ideas as long as they are respectful of the church. Other Qs could be about having non-religious readings (favorite poem or lyrics) or if it must be scripture, the amount of input in your vows (obey? no thanks), etc.
