I know hollywood tells poor guys that they need the ring to propose, but please dont do that… my cousin proposed with a ring pop and then they went and picked her ring together.  I had a ringless proposal and you know what, after never being able to understand how my married in cousin (best friend so she had gushed to me about it) could be thrilled but she said that she truely loved that he would rather make it a decision together because it would be on her finger forever.  weird but she still has the ring pop too… in the fridge… married over 5 years… she a mess. lol

fast forward to me a while back… Fiance and I picked my ring together because I wanted a pretty ring that fit my lifestyle.  I have some post on here with ring regret but in the end, the ring we picked together won out. It is over two carat equivilant of a white sapphires because the care plan and insurance suited our lifestyle, fits well under gloves, reflects beautiful rays of blue, white, and red, and it is also my birthstone and I love gemstones but Fiance wanted me to have a white stone but we have never tried to pass it off as a diamond because I didnt want a diamond. I work with two girls that have silver tanzanites that are WHOPPERS!

Id talk to her.  It can be a great bonding thing.

(squeal!) brilliant idea that I am so going to relay from now on! Get another simple (read affordable) piece of sterling or some such jewelry, have your proposal engraved, and propose with that! You still get to do the box and jewelry thing but she has something to remember the proposal by. You could then discuss rings together and how much you valued her input.

Walmart has really cheap engravable lockets and bands…
