@tj1982: Hmmm, doesn’t wear any rings huh? That makes it hard. I know my Fiance, took a ruler to one of my rings to find out the size. Maybe you could have one of her GF’s or her mom have her try some of their rings on? Have you gotten any ring ideas from her? Some of my gf’s who don’t wear rings wanted low profile erings so they wouldnt get caught up on things. So take into consideration her jewelry habits and job and such. i think some of thee bees here who have to wear latex gloves for work and stuff have opted for lower profiles as well. Good luck!

Yikes that is hard! Is there no way you could just sort of “play around” with the sizing by getting her to try on a bunch of random ones at a store? Or like PP said, have a friend or mother help you out? (I take it you want this to be a surprise?)

Also as far as the ring itself – sounds like she’s pretty low-maintenance jewelry-wise and would, like PP suggested, want a lower profile if she isn’t used to wearing rings at all. I can’t help you with a picture – my fingers are much larger than that because I’m a giant. 🙂 I could have sworn I’d seen some size 3’s around here.

Good luck. 🙂

Please get an idea from her what her style is. You can ask one of her friends or family that she is close to. Trust me if you are close to asking, she has talked to her friends about it.

I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for, but my ring is a size 4 and the center stone is somewhere around .75-.8 carat.

Here’s what you do:  Print out one of those ring sizers you can print online and wrap around your finger and do it while she’s sleeping.  You just have to make sure the scale is correct.  Or just mark it on a really thin piece of paper you wrap around her finger.  Or make her mom tell her she wants to get her a ring as a gift and needs to know her size.  Good luck!

Here’s mine. It’s a 4 1/2!!!! I had to have it sized 3 times. They can always resize it if it’s not perfect but it is better to get the right size because it weakens the metal/gold. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Normally they say to go half or full size down from the middle finger. My friend brought the jeweler a ring his gf wore on her middle finger and they measured it and suggested half to full size down.

I have a size 4.5 ring finger. And a size 5 middle finger. But I wear my engagement ring at a size 5 slightly loose because I don’t like it to fit too snug. It’s not enough to fall off my finger but it’s comfortable. I prefer loose rings because I take them off often like sleeping, cooking, showering, gym etc. I’m also my slimmest weight for awhile and I’m sure I’ll gain weight.

Depending on her lifestyle you may choose to have it looser. Also, account for swelling. If you live somewhere warm fingers can swell and the ring may not fit if you get it too snug for when it’s cold. And people also sometimes swell when they sleep and fingers will get smaller during the course of the day.

I can post pix for you when I get home.

Do you have an idea what kind of stone or size you want to get her? Might help if you narrowed it down so we can make sure you get more helpful pictures.

I am not sure exactly what kind of pictures you’re looking for, but just be careful about where/when you go shopping.  I have tiny hands, my e-ring is only 3.25, and I wear a ring that’s more like a 4 on my right hand.  When I got both rings, they had to be specially made by the designers, which obviously takes a bit longer.  Good luck with your mission, though!

PS…this may sound DUMB….but what do SI and Fiance mean?  I am a new member, but have been browsing this blog since I got engaged over a year ago, and I can’t figure it out for the life of me!  hahah….

I don’t have a candid, far away shot with my ring, but I have one without my ring, and then a close-up with the ring for comparison.

I wear a size 3.75.  My fingers are tiny– long and skinny.  I’ve seen maybe two or three people on here who say they wear a smaller size than mine, and their fingers did look bigger than mine in the photos.  My fingers are also much smaller than they appear in photos.  I’d be very careful about ordering on the small side- it’s easier to make it smaller than to stretch the ring, and you might offend her a bit if you get it too small (some women are just sensitive like that).
