Hi bees! I’ve gotten lots of good advice from these message boards, so I thought I would make an account to ask you all for wedding band advice because I’m stuck! I love the halo engagement ring my fiance gave me last year, but finding a matching wedding band has been extremely hard. We are open to going custom, but even if we do, I’m not exactly sure what I’d like to do. I went to every jewelry store in my area yesterday, and I can’t make this decision by myself. I hope this message isn’t too long, I’d like to post my options (via Flickr links) and then see what you guys think. Thanks for helping!!
For reference, here is my engagement ring from the front and side! 🙂 (see links below) It’s from Helzberg, but I just don’t care for any of the curved bands they have. As you can see, the beautiful basket underneath the ring is really large, and that’s what’s making it so difficult to fit a band up against:

From all my searching yesterday, I think I realized that whatever I do, I want the wedding band to be rose gold to compliment the circle of rose gold in my engagement ring. But I’m struggling between a few options:
- Purchase a wedding band from the sales floor that kind of goes with my ring, but it’s not a perfect match. I found this rose gold curved ring at Shane Co. As you can see, the band doesn’t completely match up against the engagement ring, but this one actually didn’t bother me as much. But the diamonds on the side of the band go down further than mine. I asked the lady if I could have the extra diamonds removed, and she said no (which surprised me). And I’m not sure what I think about the height difference between the band and the ring. Should I have something that perfectly comes alongside my ring, or sits a little beneath it? Thoughts?) – http://tinyurl.com/p9vkt7o (From the front). http://tinyurl.com/njd3p5p (Shows the mismatched side). http://tinyurl.com/o8gbf7x (The rose gold doesn’t seem to match the rose gold in my ring, is this super noticable?). http://tinyurl.com/nhy2qyb (shows how they come together underneath). http://tinyurl.com/nq2gdv2 (Shows how far up the band comes alongside my ring).
- Remove part of the basket to fit an eternity band underneath. I’ve heard of people doing this to fit a normal band underneath, but it does make me nervous! What I like about this idea is how it allows for a straight band instead of being limited to a curved band. Also, there are a lot more straight band stylistic options, so I feel like I’d have more freedom to choose a rose gold band style that I love. Has anyone else done this?
- Custom options from Jared: When I went into Jared, the lady there gave me some custom options. First option, she said that for a budget max of $1,400 they could completely create a band that would look like it came with my ring. They would even recreate the basket detailing along the side, and the ring would tuck completely into the curve of my halo. It could also be the same height as my engagement ring if I did it this way. Has anybody ever done something like this? I know it’s more common to mismatch the heights of the bands or to leave a gap between the halo ring and the band, but I’m not as big of a fan of these personally. Second option, she said that they could make a horseshoe wedding band. I’d never heard of this before, but they literally make a band that looks like a horseshoe (with a gap on one side of the circle). Then, they’d just solder this to the side of my ring, and we wouldn’t have to worry about going alongside or under my ring. It would look like an eternity band, but without all the trouble of making that happen. I’m just not sure about this option because it would be noticable that my band doesn’t completely go around. When I see this done, it’s normally with a ring that has an overhang to hide the missing part of the wedding band. Anyway, they said they could create anything custom (of course for a price lol), but I just want to make sure that if I go custom, I truly, truly love it.
What do you ladies think? I’m completely open to suggestions. If I had realized there would be this much of an issue trying to find a wedding band, I would have started looking for mine months ago!! If I want to do something custom before the wedding, I have to get it in quickly. But I also don’t want to just buy a band to have something and then be unhappy with how it looks in the long run. If you have any pictures or advice to share, I would love to hear from you! Sorry for the lengthy post, but I’m just truly stuck on this one! Thank you!!
