Hi!! Calling all BEEs!
I need help. We are getting married Dec 5th…two months YAY! Finances are SOOO tight. Fiance is unemployed. I don’t make much and I’m suffering in loans from school. We want to go on a honeymoon/minimoon after our wedding….Any ideas where to go? We live in New Jersey.
We have been thinking about doing a cheap carribean all inclusive gig. You can get things for like 400-500 bucks a person….Does anyone thing it would be cheaper to have it in the US? I was thinking somewhere we could drive, like Annapolis or Virginia Beach…keep in mind it is DECEMBER! Its too early to go up to new england to ski; it will just be cold. There may be SOME snow, but not much. Plus it will be in season & I think the hotels will be pricy. Plus, we just moved down here from RI. However, my gut tells me that I won’t be able to find hotels cheaper than something in the carribean. Any ideas? We want to stay 4 or 5 nights, depending where we go.

You need to talk to Bellenga – she is pro at finding travel deals and steals.

if you’re the camping type, nothing beats a wilderness retreat!

My favorite sites for travel bargains:
And tripadvisor.com is an awesome way to find reviews about hotels, etc.

What is your total budget? This might help people give you suggestions.
Checking cheapcaribbean and the like definitely would be good. A friend of mine did four days in an all-inclusive in Jamaica last year (flew out of Newark) for like $600. Check continental vacations — I think that’s who she did it through.
Disney maybe? It would be a cheap flight from Newark and you could add on the meal plan to make it “all inclusive.”
You could try Vermont if you want to a winter-y thing. They make the snow now at the ski resorts, so there will be snow no matter what.
Also, Vegas? You could probably get a cheap flight from Newark and hotels are usually really cheap. My sister and I stayed at the Flamingo last September for less than $100/night.

- Wedding: April 2010 - Marie Gabrielle, Dallas
I found some amazing deals on bookit.com I think mexico might be the way to go. I saw one for like $400 per person all inclusive. Or you could figure out where you want to go in the US and do priceline for a hotel.

Annapolis is one of my all time favorite places – especially when it’s decorated for Christmas! If you’re thinking coastal area where you can drive to, I’d also suggest St. Mary’s on the eastern shore of MD.
Williamsburg is also a wonderful area to visit! Again, the Christmas decorations make it extra special.
You could also escape to a cozy mountain retreat in the Poconos!
Wherever you end up, have a great time!

When I was younger, I did a bahama cruise vacation from Ft. Lauderdale for super cheap. (One of my best friends lives in south FL, and she’s done this a bunch of times too). The website is http://www.discoverycruiseline.com/home/hotels, It’s a cruise ship that takes you to the Bahamas (Grand Bahama Island/Freeport), and the hotel stay is included in the price.
I found an all inclusive hotel package on there for 12/7/2009 returning 12/11/2009 for 856.24 (including taxes and travel insurance) for 2 people. The flight to Ft. Lauderdale isn’t included. Honestly, I live in PA and I’ve driven to FL a bunch of times to save money. As long as you aren’t opposed to road trips, it might be something to consider 🙂
Good luck! 😉
**edit: the Viva Wyndham Fortuna is the only all inclusive hotel on there, FYI

You could do a cruise. If you get one within driving distance, you won’t have to pay for a flight and I think the cruise prices are pretty reasonable. I did a quick search on vacationstogo.com and found a 9-day bahamas cruise leaving form Baltimore on December 12th from $499/person

What about Maryland, VA or WVA? Not too far a drive from you, and lots of things to do and see. If you and your FH are into mountains, the Shenandoah valley in VA is very beautiful year-round and you can find romantic cabins to rent for a week quite easily and they aren’t too expensive (just google shenandoah valley cabins.) WVA has some cute, romantic towns about an hour or so from DC, Shepherdstown and Berkeley Springs are ones that come to mind and they are also close to the mountains. Annapolis MD is awesome, although you’d probably want to combine it with DC or Baltimore since a week there might be too much (it’s pretty small). Ocean city is nice although I’ve only been there in the summer.
You can also check out packages for Miami or Key West. If you like a good party, there’s few places better than Miami!!!

I second going to cheapcaribbean.com They have some amazing deals. It depends on what you guys are into, but if you want something close, I would do a destination spa retreat for a few days and just get a super comfy, romantic room (fireplace?) and get spa treatments and room service!
