I have never seen an example of that, but the only thing that I would be worried about it is that it might loosen up over the course of the day / night and could end up falling down.  If you do buttons, I would probably do several that you could tighten up as the night goes on just in case.  Or you could do something similar to a belt (like one of the ones with two rings) where you could tighten it up if needed, but it still wouldn’t be a bow.  I’m not sure how you would accomplish that or what it would look like though.  Or perhaps you could use some sort of elastic? You could try looking on Etsy, but I think that most people use the bow option because it is the easiest to get to fit properly and stay in place all night.

I was planning to do a sash like you are describing.  My tailor was going tomake a belt ande tack it down in front on each side with a snap closure in the back.  Dont’ know if that helps..

Mine is like that – it has a hook and eye closure on the back.
