Originally we were going to have a square cake. We were going to put navy and lavander ribbon around it (the wedding colors). Now I’m thinking it looks too modern. I’m going for a romantic feel for the wedding. My dress is lacy and I’m wearing pearls. Our centerpieces have lace wrapped votives and our invitations had lace on them.
Should I change the cake to something more like this?

I think the lacy one looks outdated, but the modern one is fab.

I think as long as the detail work on your cake is classic and reflects the romantic vibe you are going for, using the ribbon won’t end up looking too modern.

I think you can make the square cake look more romantic by adding flowers in random spots or cascading down. Have you thought about having the squares stacked differently?

i love the lace one! and it seems like it would fit the theme of your wedding nicely.

We may use lace instead of ribbon on the square cake and see how that looks.

I 2nd Treasure43. Instead of the navy ribbon, maybe find a lace or shimmery ribbon to soften the look. Or don’t use any ribbon, the decoration on the tiers in the 1st picture are beautiful and I am sure the bakery can put that all over the tiers w/ no ribbon.
