My fiance and I have been engaged for 3 years now. We were going to wait to get married once we were both out of college, which is going to be roughly 3-4 years from now. We are both going back to school this fall, so obviusly we have absolutely no money to have a nice wedding right now. We both want to have a real wedding, but We have run into a dilemma now though. My fiance wasn’t going to start college again until I was almost done, right now he is working 2 jobs to support us since I cannot find work. Well it’s rough for him so he wants to start school and just get a little extra loan money to help with the bills, which won’t be a problem in the long run because the one employer he will stay with does tuition reimbursement. But there is one HUGE issue with that. He is 22, and according to the government, he is considered dependent, despite the fact he has been on his own for 4 years, doesn’t matter. He will not get any financial aid, his parents make too much. And he does not talk to his dad and there is NO WAY he will get ahold of him to get his tax info and all that stuff. His mom can’t afford to help. So he can’t apply for financial aid, and you can’t get a stafford loan without applying for aid. We both have bad credit so we can only get stafford loans. We really need to get some sort of aid also. The only way he can become independent is if we have a kid, which is not an option right now, or get married, asap, like in the next month, he needs to start in November. We still plan on having a nice ceremony and reception in a few years after school. But we plan on keeping this to ourself. Financially, we both know it’s the best option for us in the long run. And yes we are happy to get married, but we are both sad that it isn’t what we originally wanted, so we plan on keeping it as our secret. We still want our families to be excited about our big day. And when that day comes, we will consider it a vow renewal, a new chapter in our life. but I don’t know how to do this. I know I need to get a license, but where do we do this at in front of like a judge? I have tried to look it up online and can’t find anything about it. I am in the Cincinnati area. I just want to get our license and go to a courthouse to have it done. My best friend and her husband know and they are going to be our witnesses. What steps do we need to take and about how much will it cost? Thanks for any and all help.
