Well first of all, they should be able to make it shorter even if it’s a lace dress.  That is what seamstresses do.  Maybe the reason why it doesn’t look as flattering is because it isn’t fitted on top?  It looks like they need to bring the sides in so that it fits your body like a glove.

You are definitely able to get it altered!

You can change the neckline to a sweetheart neckline and of course you can shorten the dress and make it fit everywhere else properly too. I think crinoline would make it pouf out a little more and it’s probably more comfortable as well (so that when you walk in the dress, the fabric won’t get stuck between your legs etc.).

We are dress twins! It’s also funny because I just had my first fitting on Monday. I didn’t find that I thought the dress made me look boxy. My dress is really tight though and doesn’t need to be taken in at all–is your dress getting taken in? Maybe that will help. I also tried the dress on with two different crinolines with two different levels of fullness. I didn’t like how poofy they made the dress, but you could try and see if you like it. My dress is also being shortened. Not the train, but the front so I won’t trip. It’s doable even though it’s lace. I have pictures of the dress with and without crinolines and tightly fitted. I can’t load them though because I’m on my phone and my computer’s down. If you think seeing them would help, you can pm me and I might be able to email them.

I am a Fresno bride too!! I fell in love with it after trying on probably over 100 dresses; I really think its an amazing dress 🙂 for a bra, I’m planning to get onethe the longline bras from David’sbridal (I’m a Dirty Delete and they have good support while still being comfortable). I actually found the dress to be quite poofy as is, so I am planning to take out 1 layer of crinoline. I do think that an Aline slip would work well for you if you want to bring the layers out a bit more. Also, have you thought about trying a beaded Sash/belt? I’m thinking about it; it might give some nice definition at the waist. I think it looks beautiful on you! Good luck!

Oh, and it’s just my opinion, but I love the neckline as is!! It is actually one of my favorite parts of the dress, I like it so much more than all the sweethearts I tried on 🙂
