I’m having my wedding on Oct 2 2010 and want the colors to be fall related – yellow, orange, and a bit of red. I thought navy blue bridesmaids dresses would look pretty with orange flowers….but how can I incorporate blue into the reception decor without it clashing??
See pics for more detail….

Blue linens or blue incorporated into your cake would look really nice.

Cobalt blue is our main color – we’re using blue ribbon around each tier of the cake, having blue overlays on our tables and mixing blue flowers in with the green and white (our other main colors). Totally do-able! I love the blue and orange together, you should go for it!

It won’t clash, really, unless you pick light blue against burnt orange or something odd like that. Blue and orange are complementary colors, which means they look awesome together! Just use navy accents wherever–maybe charger plates, napkins, chair sashes, ribbons/detailing on centerpieces…

thanks for the info!
what types of flowers are blue, besides hydrangeas?

I love this color combo of the blue bridesmaids dresses with bright, and colorful bouquets.
You can work blue into your receptions with small accents or table runners. I would stay away from the blue flowers though- I think the orange and yellows would look great.

I agree with sbeedesign, try to keep the blue to the dresses and accents in the decor but keep the flowers to fall colors. How exciting those are beautiful colors.
Perfect Palette is really fun blog to check out if you’re trying to figure out color combos.

In fact, the last blog post featured on The Perfect Palatte was a blue and fall orange inspiration board.
I think the cobalt and the fall colors will go great together!

Good advice from everyone! I like the idea of navy accents (and dresses) while keeping the flowers orange/yellow/red. Maybe even navy vases would look nice, although I don’t know if vases will be part of your centerpieces & decor. You can do it!!

Mrs. Milkshake has a blog entry on the Weddingbee website called Orange And Blue Are Complementary Colors. She has a really pretty picture with a navy dress and orange fabric.

That’s pretty! Use it on your tables (as linen)

It sounds so pretty, I have never seen anybody use those combinations in real life!
