My fiance is a part-time artist (murals, acrylic and oil painting) and I would love to somehow incorporate that into our reception. I’m a big DIY’er but have never taken on something as big as a wedding. We want to keep the feel of the wedding fun and laid back, but we want it to look chic, not kidd-ish.
We want our wedding to have little touches that represent each of us, which is why I think that incorporating his passion for art, but I don’t want the whole thing to be based on just that. For example, I thought that I could make some paintbrush vases to hold the flowers on the tables. (something like this http://www.countryliving.com/crafts/how-to-make-a-paintbrush-vase) I’m really drawing a blank on more ideas though and would love help!
We still have a lot of time and haven’t set an exact date although the wedding will most likely be in April or May of 2013.

I love that theme, it could be done beautifully!
use mini easels as placeholders for the guests. I’ve seen them at dollar stores and they are super cute.
Use an antique frame horizontally on the table spray painted in one of your wedding colours, then put the paintbrush vase in the centre
supply the guests with art supplies and have them draw you a picture in your guest book.

You can take your STD pictures in a gallery or in front of some art works your fiance has made. Depending on how many vases you want, paint brush vases could get very expensive. I know I spend a couple bucks per paint brush, and I don’t even buy the fanciest ones. One thing that could be cool/similar is to buy vases at michaels, and drip paint into them in your wedding colors (or just lots of colors). I use a vase from there to hold my paint brushes and I like how colorful its gotten. Or instead of lining the whole vase with paint brushes, mix them in with your flowers or scatter a few through the bottom of the vase.

How about having him paint little backdrops for your table numbers? I love that paintbrush vase idea btw! You could also incorporate his art maybe in the guestbook – have him paint something that reflects the 2 of you somehow and then have people sign around it?

@julies1949: Those tiny little paintings on easels for name cards are one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I love that!

Maybe your Fiance could paint your aisle runner?

I love the Puzzle escort cards! I dont know how many pleople are coming to your weding, or the overall theme/feel for it. But here are my suggestions. The first is to give you fiance’s work as favors. You can go on line and create you own customised stationery featuring his work. You can just chose one pic or a series of pics and mix and match. Best part is, if there are any left over favors, you can use them in the future. You can do the same for magnets. Or similar to the puzzle escort cards, you can use one of you fiance’s pieces as a ecort card mural.
