So we are having our ceremony and reception at the Sunken Gardens in St.Petersburg, FL. They’re this beautifully lush botanical garden. We are having our ceremony at 6pm and the first look will be sometime around 5:30. Our guests are allowed to arrive anytime around 5pm. We’re going to set up a drink bucket with cold bottled water and a cute sandwich board sign with a poem or garden quote and invite the guests to stroll through the gardens before they have a seat for our ceremony.
Here’s my debacle… what time do i put on the invitation:
- five o’clock, so they will arrive at 5pm
- or six o’cock, since that’s the actual start time of the ceremony.
Our invite designer has suggested we place a sentence at the bottom to ask guests to arrive early, but when it’s put on there, it makes the design looked a little crammed.
Help me hive!!!

I think you definitely put the actual 6pm start time. Lots of people get to weddings a little early anyway so folks will still have a chance to see the gardens. I would NOT put 5pm! Then the early-ish folks get there at 4:30 and feel silly.

I think including a brief suggestion in fine print about arriving early is a great idea

I agree that you put the actual start time of the ceremony. Between arriving early as one does to such an event and possibly time after the ceremony, I think that guests will have an opportunity to see the gardens. Fibbing about the ceremony time will just aggrivate your guests. Let them determine how much time they want to spend looking around.

The Sunken Gardens are gorgeous! I visited there a while back. What a great place for a wedding!

Agree with PP’s, put the time as 6 pm. You don’t want people showing up at 4:30 – which they would if you had 5:00. I always am early to weddings. It’s a pet peeve of mine to be late.

i think the main reason I can’t decide is due to our first look… i don’t want my guests to still be strolling around when we go to do our first look. but we haven’t even decided the details of that just yet either…. i realize i’m stressing over something so small!
