So, I just had another makeup trial. I’m having mixed feelings about it and think I might like the first MUA/trial a lot better (although she is quite a bit more expensive). Both are highly rated on WeddingWire…
The one who came today also does hair (which, again, would be more cost effective and convenient). I’m just not loving the makeup as much as the first MUA I met with…
Would any of you mind sharing your experiences?
Was there any artist who you met with for a trial and just wasn’t feeling it?

Ugh just had a hair and makeup trial which cost me $175 and I hated both. Makeup was awful, didn’t do lashes and forgot to put on any lip color. Hair was ridiculously frizzy (and I have nonfrizzy Asian hair!’) and the updo looked nothing like my inspiration pics. She only spent an hour and 15 minutes. Such a waste and this person is highly rated. I’m so mad I wasted so much money on such crap work. Thinking of going to a salon ano just doing my own makeup. I know I do it better than this lady did. Ugh sooooo mad. Sorry had to vent but just wanted to say I understand!

I was so lucky, because the best man is a hair dresser and my friend is a make up artist, so they did my hair and make up. My only problem was ME.
I did two trials, and chose the hair and make up from the second trial. My hair dresser did exactly what I want, it was perfect, BUT, I still think I should’ve chosen another style for my hair. A week later I was still crying, like a baby, because I was feeling really insecure about how my hair was lol
So, if you have the money to spare, I would chose the make up artist you liked the most, so you won’t regret after your wedding. Good luck 🙂

I had a really bad hair trial. After 3 hrs and 3 updos I was just done. I kept my appt for the wedding day and just had my sister watch and make sure it was being done how I wanted. Luckily as I was walking in, another bride was leaving with almost the exact style I want. I said, “give me that!” It came out gorgeous! So if you go in knowing exactly what changes you want to make to the trial, it should work out. I didn’t want to spend any more money on trials, so I decided to wing it on makeup. I just asked to keep it natural and that worked out.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences…I made myself sit with the makeup on all day/night…and it didn’t get better. FI’s face kind of said it all when he walked in the door and he quietly asked, “Are you happy with it?”. He also saw my makeup on the day of our e-shoot and said there was no comparison in either the way I looked or carried myself.
It’s funny because I wear makeup every day pretty much and don’t shy away from it. But this…this was just bad. How did this person get over 60 5 star reviews? The MUA was a sweetheart…but, yikes, not on my wedding day.
So, I sent an email to the original MUA asking if we could go forward with booking. Haven’t heard back yet, but fingers crossed. Also, will just go to my regular stylist for the hair.

@babycakes24: Totally agree with your decision. My Fiance said the makeup and hair looked awful on me and agreed that i do it way better myself. I dont understand how this person gets such great reviews and charges so much money and was really just so bad… good luck!
