- Wedding: August 2012
so im new on here, hoping to get some good advice.
My fiance and I are hoping to marry in September 2012. We both graduated a year ago, he has a steady job but I have a part-time job. Both saddled with school loans =/ We thought about eloping with a small group of ppl via a destination wedding (vegas etc) but we both have too much family & friends, and many would most likely resent not being able to attend if it wasn’t local. So we have decided to attempt a wedding at city hall or Central Park/with officiant, and a reception afterwards for 75-100 people. In researching restaurants and other reception halls, it seems like a sit down dinner is definitely out of our price range.
Was wondering if anyone had any good ideas/experiences regarding venues, and how to cut costs so we can have a decent reception? hmm have food catered instead of going to a restaurant or reception hall for a sit down meal? We really want our guests to have a great time and to feel like it was worth attending.
Also, would it be improper to have cocktails and hors deouvres at a reception during the dinner hour? would people be expecting dinner?
Our budget is sadly, REALLY, low ;/ We would like to keep it at 5,000$ — even lower would be better. Kinda impossible in New York, really. Well anyway thanks in advance for reading this, and I welcome all replies. 🙂
