I’m a regular WB member but I wanted to go incognito for this one.
My EDD is July 20. I’m trying to get 4-5 months off from work maternity leave. However:
Question 1: I am signed up for two online courses starting the beginning of September. I know the teaching style of one of the professors, as I’ve had an online course with her before. She is fair and workload isn’t too heavy. I am not sure about the online teaching style of the other professor. (Like most universities nowadays, there are options to take courses taught on campus via online.) I don’t want to drop these classes, as I receive a scholarship award that is renewable each year so long as there are funds available, and so long as I maintain my grades. Do you think that I’ll be able to handle these classes while on maternity leave, when baby is 7-8 weeks old? PLEASE NOTE: I realize it’s difficult to predict if baby is high-needs, etc. I just wanted a general consensus of what is theoretically possible to take on prior to the typical 12-week maternity leave.
Question 2: I am debating volunteering to continue on with a project at work once a month while on maternity leave. Project is 3 hours per month at the beginning of each month. Should I not “volunteer” for this and let my temporary replacement handle this? On the one hand, the extra cash may help as any leave beyond one month will be unpaid. On the other, what if I’m stretching myself too thin with two classes already?
Thanks for any insight. Again I know that every baby and situation is different. I just want an idea of what I can expect those first weeks.
