(Closed) Need Motivation

You know, I too find that sometimes Weddingbee can be a great way to release all of the things you’ve been thinking/going through and know that eventually someone out there is going through the same thing too. Use it!

For me, fitness is definitely a priority and I don’t like to think about how far away (or how close, eek!) the wedding is when motivating myself to get in shape – regardless of numbers on a scale, getting is shape (even if only moderately "better") is the best thing you can do for yourself, your mental health and your wedding! Also, paying for something, whether it be a gym membership or the 30 day shred, always motivates me as I hate to lose money. When your DVD arrives on Wednesday just think that every time you use it its cost per use goes down and that’s "more money you can spend on champagne." This is something that definitely motivates me for a lot of stuff – DIY centerpieces, a borrowed veil, a gym membership – and it’s all about getting your brain on board.

Rather painfully, the rewards of exercise often take awhile to reveal themselves. Unlike chocolate with its instance satisfaction, using that 30-day shred 3 times a week won’t seem to do much until 5-6 weeks from now when you notice some nice, subtle changes. Be patient, wait it out and know that even if you’re inches and pounds aren’t changing, your heart is better for every little thing you do and that eventually other body parts will catch up. (I can confidently say this as a public health professional).

Summing up – don’t give up and do a little bit everyday, even if that’s just an extra lap around the block. Don’t make working out the exception, make it the rule and you’ll be happy you did. Again, just make sure to do something, anything EVERYDAY. Final note, if you can, find a buddy, companionship never hurts, if you can’t, use Weddingbee, it’s a great virtual support system (also, Self.com) – Virtual support rocks!

I’m here in spirit with ya Smokie!  I’ve been a baseball mom for the last month..and when Id’ usually workout, there was instead baseball..and the month before that I was really sick off/on..mostly "on" though.

So I’m going back on the wagon yet again tomorrow as the season’s over.

Maybe we can start a "diet buddies" thread or something?

I had the same problem (though no car accidents!) getting in gear to get in shape.  I pasted a picture of my wedding dress to my fridge and wrote nothing tastes as good as thin looks and feels and joined WW.  25 lbs later I’m really happy with the results so my advice is to give yourself some tough love, set some goals, hold yourself accountable – maybe find a buddy, and get going!!  You can do it 🙂

Ugh, reading this just reminds me of my own lack of motivation, so I feel ya!  I did a good three weeks of working out at Curves 3-4 times a week, and then pulled something in my ankle, and have taken the past 2 weeks off from working out.  Now that today is Monday and my ankle is feeling better, I should go start up the workout routine again, but I’m not sure if I have the motivation.  My evil, procrastinating, workout-hating mind keeps whispering things like "You’ve got over a year to get in shape," "Just give yourself another week off, until payday, so it’s easier to pay for the membership renewal," etc.

The problem is, I KNOW that really I only have until August to get in shape, because that’s when I need to start dress shopping.  I KNOW I need to start getting in shape, eating better, if not for the wedding, but for my overall health.  But will I actually go workout today?  I’m still not sure.  Ugh.

that’s great…!! keep it up!! i should have started last year but i wasn’t motivated either!
