I walk over my lunch break.  It’s about the only time I can fit it in.  When I walk I don’t have time to go out to eat for lunch, so that forces me to pack something healthy, even if it’s just a protein bar.  It’s the best time of day for me to get in any form of exercise, and walking can be done in scrubs or a suit!

I was going to suggest using the lunch hour also. You will feel better and more energized for the afternoon. Take something that you can eat at your desk.

My motivation is to stand naked in front of a mirror-that’s enough for me!

@Sa7208:  Getting to the gym can be a pain when you are busy with long commutes. Can you set up a small home gym?

I have a similar schedule/commute/etc. I force myself to do 40 minutes a day of Insanity. I also get up at 5am 3-4 times a week to go running for a half hour. It’s tough, but it’s good for your health and mood.

When in a pinch, I repeat “Michelle Obama’s arms” over and over again until I get motivation!

Why not set up a home gym and work out while watching your TV show? With your SO’s background, I’m sure he can come up with routines using free weights and body-resistance moves while you two are watching TV. Ultimately, your nutrition will make the biggest difference.

@Sa7208:  Def. have more energy when I run in the morning. But there are certainly days when I struggle to do the 40 minutes of the video. But once you’ve done it for a month or two, it becomes natural. It’s all about just sticking with it and not letting yourself have excuses.

A lot of time, I will do the Insanity video with the sound off and the tv on so I can watch tv with my Fiance in case that’s a fear!

I work long hours and don’t have lunch breaks either.  For me, the only thing that worked was going in the morning.  Once I started going in the mornings before work, it became a routine for me like brushing your teeth, and I’ve been doing it now for over 10 years.  I am up every day at 4:30 and it’s not always fun to do it, but once I get there I feel much better.  I just don’t really think of it as an option. . . I think of it as one of those things that has to be done.  I’m exhausted at the end of the day and usually go to bed early, but my Darling Husband understands and he admires my willpower.  Whatever you end up doing, though, they key is to make it a habit so you no longer have to think about it. . . you just do it.  Good luck to you!

Losing weight is mainly about eating healthy.. is your diet healthy and is the weight gain simply from cutting out exercise?   If you really focused on your diet and worked out 4x a week you should be able to drop the extra weight within 2 months.  Doing Insanity and/or setting up a small in-house gym and running might be the best for your lifestyle, that way you don’t have to drive to the gym on top of your work commute.  Just think, you can get workouts in on Saturday and Sunday and then that’s only squeezing two others in during the week.  When squeezing in exercise is tough… I do planks, push-ups, dips, lunges, squats, jump rope, etc. while I’m watching TV. If you get creative – you guys can make it work 🙂

Start a Couch-to-5k program and sign up NOW for a race in about 2 months (and PAY for it). Then, go run it! Count your calories using something like Livestrong.com’s MyPlate (which I personally prefer to MyFitnessPal) and try to come in around 1500 net calories a day. Whatever you do, don’t drop below 1200 or you will go into starvation mode.
