@couldntbeehappier:  i think you should go to the jewellery store and see both of these options in person to get a better idea of what you like.

also, you will be able to try on rings of different sizes to see what feels comfortable on your finger.  do you like a lot of finger coverage?  keep in mind, diamond shrinkage.  you may think the ring is large at first but after a while, you get used to it and it looks smaller than you thought.

the price difference for a .5ct to 1ct is minimal with these stones so you may want to consider larger than you initially thought.

i would suggest getting a cheapy $10 ring at claires or something to see if you get used to a size first before buying something.

btw, congrats and welcome to the hive!

Lovely rings! I prefer the saphire though.  Definitely try on to see what you like best for carat sizes. I have a size five finger and a 1.12 centre stone. Its quite large in my opinion so i would think a .5 would be fine. But it really depends on your personal tastes.

I love the second link! And I don’t think a .5 will look too small on your finger.. I’m a size 7 and my center stone is a little under a half carat and I think it’s the perfect size for me! πŸ™‚

@couldntbeehappier:  I definitely ditto mypinkshoes if you can see them in person you should! but here’s my 2 cents. warning I like Moissys so I’m partial. To my understanding white sapphires dont refract as much light so you don’t get the same sparkle and shine of a diamond. Whereas moissanite has double refraction and sparkles more than a diamond. Moissys also refract more color (think little rainbows)  versus the white light diamonds give off. It’s all a matter of personal preference of course, but I’d prefer the extra sparkle of a moissy to the lack of sparkle in a sapphire. Some feel the extra sparkle makes moissys look costume-y.

I have a size 5 fingr and a .67 carat stone – and it looks big on my hand.  I think a half carat at a high quality is better than a 1 carat of lower quality, IMO.  With the halo around a 1/2 carat, it would be perfectly sized.  Then again, I’m a simple gal, and don’t like wearing giant rings.  I think the first ring (white sapphire) is lovely and delicate for a little hand, but both are beautiful.

I like the second set, personally. Moissanite is really quality and I’ve heard doesn’t look fake – just really, really brilliant and a bit more firey than diamonds. I’d just go to jewelry stores and try on different rings, maybe with similar designs to get used to what it’ll look like.

Something I wanted to point out is that sapphires are denser than diamonds so a half carat sapphire is going to be smaller than a half carat diamond. It’s just something to keep in mind when comparing sizes.
