My dog ate my social security card when she was a puppy (a couple years ago). I have been putting off going down to the SS office because I know how awful it is and I am not looking forward to spending an entire day there. Do I need my social security card for either the marriage license or for my passport (renew it technically)? I tried to Google it and it looks like I don’t but I wanted to be sure. I am going to be changing my name so I was hoping to not go to the SS office until August when I would do that. Thank you!
P.s. here’s a picture of the little brat for cuteness purposes.

Yup, we needed it for both.

No, you don’t need it for your passport and I’m pretty sure you don’t for marriage license. I don’t remember hardly needing anything at all for the marriage license, it actually surprised me how easy it was (depends on state maybe?)…but, when you do get a new SS card just go to their website. You can set up an account and order a new card from there.
EDIT: I think you can send in another doc instead of your SS card for passport. THat’s one of your options but you can send in another document I think.

We did not need it for our marriage license. All we needed was our IDs. I’ve never gotten a passport so idk about that.

I didn’t need it for either passport or marriage license. I don’t think I ever actually had a SS card or my parents lost it a loonnggg time ago. So I got through life without one until age 27 when I legally changed my name after getting married.

I actually tried to do it online but I moved too recently so it couldn’t verify my new address to send it to. 😒

I did need my SS card for my marriage liscense, but not my passport though. I think the rules vary state by state.

Re marriage license- required ID varies from state to state. Without knowing where you live, no one should pretend they can answer your question.

I needed it for my marriage license. Haven’t gotten my passport yet (it’s been ages so I have to do a new one) but I don’t think I need it for that.
